Be cautious of "debt relief" or "credit repair" companies that charge upfront fees. Legitimate credit counseling is free or low-cost through non-profits like the NFCC. You can dispute credit report errors yourself for free — you do not need to pay anyone to do this for you. The resources listed here are all legitimate, vetted tools.
