We have to move away from the "science lab" for a moment and talk about the actual world outside your window. The game has changed, and the stakes have never been higher.
As a Navigator, you need to understand the "Terrain" of the modern world. It isn't just an asteroid field — it's a minefield.
Legacy Version vs. Now
The danger of substances was usually "long-term." You worried about getting hooked over months or years. A bad experience was survivable.
The danger is immediate. The terrain has been permanently altered. A single interaction with the wrong substance can be the last one.
The Synthetic Opioid
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid. It was designed for end-of-life cancer pain. It is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine.
2 grains of salt
A tiny speck — about the size of two grains of salt — is enough to stop a human being's breathing.

Fifty to one hundred times stronger than morphine. The human body was not built to handle this concentration.
Zero
Because it is so powerful, there is no "almost too much." The margin for error is zero.
The Fake Pill Reality
Because fentanyl is cheap and easy to make in illegal labs, it is being cut into almost every street drug — weed, cocaine, meth, and especially "Fake Pills."
Illegal labs use pill presses to make "Fakes." They look exactly like a Xanax, an Adderall, or a Percocet. They even have the right stamps, colors, and textures.
DEA Intelligence — Critical Stat
According to the DEA, 7 out of every 10 fake pills contain a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl.
The Only Rule That Matters
If you didn't get it from a pharmacy with your name on the bottle, you have to assume it's a "press."
A Mathematical Trap
This is a critical concept for every Navigator to understand. Imagine a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. The "dough" is the filler powder, and the "chocolate chips" are the fentanyl. When a dealer or a lab mixes a batch, they don't have medical-grade equipment. The "chips" aren't spread evenly.
One pill in a bag might have zero fentanyl. The person who takes this one survives. They think their source is "safe."
The pill right next to it might have five chips. Sharing a pill with a friend is like playing Russian Roulette.

In the 2020s, the "Pilot's Logic" has to be stricter than ever. In the past, people could "experiment" and have a "safe" bad experience. That version of the world is gone.
The margins for error have disappeared. Using a street drug today isn't like "trying a substance" — it's like "interacting with a poison."
You have to treat every unknown substance as a "System Killer."
